* Coverage rate is listed without considering technical losses
Technical losses may vary depending on the paint application method, construction parameters, overall work conditions. Calculations are in accordance with CBN 447-84 (no less than 15% loss during airless spraying).
SURFACE PREPARATION
Preparation of metal constructions for flame-retardant paint application should be held in accordance with requirements listed in SNaR 2.03.11-85 “Building constructions protection from corrosion”.
Metal constructions should be prepared for anti-corrosion undercoat application, in accordance with GOST 9.402-80 “Metal surfaces pre-paint preparation”, level 2. After preparation, anti-corrosion undercoat GF-021 is applied (see Note). The undercoat thickness should be no less than 50 μm.
Surfaces already coated beforehand should be dedusted and degreased.
In case of any undercoat layer defects like distended areas or corrosion stains, surface reconstruction should be performed in accordance with this tutorial.
Before the paint application, undercoat should dry out down to level 5 (GOST 19007).
Applying the “OBEREG-OMV” flame-retardant paint over the undercoat before it fully dries can lead to cracks appearing in fire-resistant coating.
Applying the “OBEREG-OMV” flame-retardant paint over paints or undercoats not recommended in this instruction can lead to adhesion loss and paint peeling off the surface. Thus, it is recommended to paint small test area first, let it dry out and observe results.
Note that it is essential to use quality GOST-compliant undercoat. Undercoats manufactured according to less strict standards contain oil-polymers and have a softening temperature of 90-1000С, with fire-resistant coating starting to perform only at 220-2500С. As a result, in event of exposing to fire, undercoat might be heated to 2000С, which might lead to deformation and peeling off the surface along with the protective coating. Moreover, using cheaper analogues leads to increased drying time along with reduced or nullified adhesion of fire-resistant coating.
APPLYING THE FLAME-RETARDANT PAINT
The flame-retardant paint should be applies over dry and per-conditioned in accordance with this instruction metal surfaces. During the operation, the air temperature should be above +5ºС, with air humidity below 80%. Temperature of a steel surface should be 2ºС above the dew point.
The paint delamination is possible during storage and transportation! To prepare paint for application, it should be well stirred, preferably with mixer, for 5-10 minutes. The paint will return to the initial homogenous condition. Paint delamination does not indicate its incapacity!
The paint is shipped ready to use and is applied via airless spraying, by brush, or by roller. It can be diluted with water, but no more than with +5% to the overall weight. The water should be added in portions (1% of the paint’s mass), while thoroughly stirring the composition until reached the homogenous state.
In case of using diluted paint, manufacturer does not guarantee that “wet” layer 0.8mm thick is achievable.
Using diluters not recommended by this instruction is strictly forbidden!
In case of application via airless spraying, it is recommended to use the tools with the following specifications:
Parameter
Value
Pressure, no less than, atmospheres
60
Spray nozzle diameter, mm (inch)
0,43 (0,017) -1,2 (0,047)
Spray angle, degrees
10-30
Supplying hose diameter, mm
10
Supplying hose length, m
Max 60
- During the first layer applicationthe wet membrane thickness should not exceed 0,3 mm.
- During the application of the next layersthe wet membrane thickness should not exceed 0.8mm per layer.
If more thick dry layer is required, the paint is being applied by several layers.
Inter-layer drying should take place for at least 3 hours, at the temperature of +20ºС and humidity less than 80% regardless of the application method. Before applying the next layer, make sure that the paint has dried up to the point of peeling.
Painting with brush or roller increases the drying time by 20-25%. In temperatures below +20ºС and/or humidity over 80%, the drying time is increased as well.
High humidity and low temperature may cause condensation on metal surfaces, which slows down the paint drying process and might lead to poor adhesion of paint with the painted surface.
Applying the “OBEREG-OMV” flame-retardant paint in a single layer exceeding the thickness stated in this instruction may lead to paint dripping and further fire-resistant coating cracking/ partial peeling out after drying.
While painting constructions of complex shape, consider decresing the “wet” layer thickness. Not doing so may lead to extra amounts of paint accumulating in the inner corners, leading to coat cracking after drying.
After finishing the painting operations, clean tools and equipment with acetone.

January 30 in the Leninsky district of Novosibirsk caught fire one of the apartments on the second floor of the five-story building. Residents were evacuated from the house. To the house called the fire Department.
For several years, visitors complain about the unsatisfactory condition of the Kuibyshev Central district hospital. The building has not known normal repair for a long time. The walls of the building inside and outside are covered with cracks, in many corners lives abundant mold.
One of the most important aspects of our homes is the safety factor. Okay, we all love the idea of living in a beautiful house or apartment complete with awesome interior furnishings but the bottom line is always the same; how safe is your home? With this sobering thought in mind, let’s look at an extremely unobtrusive way to ensure that you and your loved ones are looked after should the unthinkable happen. Yes, we are talking about flame retardant exterior paint!
The very thought of fire grips the mind with fear and panic. Overwhelming heat, suffocating smoke, loss of property, and above all else, the loss of life. The insurance company may be able to replace the material goods, but there are some things that money simply cannot replace – lives, lost time and items of sentimental value.Fire strikes when least expected. It can start just about anywhere without warning, taking one by surprise and causing panic.
